Sikh forces enter the Red Fort at Delhi
Sikh forces occupied the public hall of the Red Fort at Delhi in March 1783. Emperor Shah Alam II settled with them, allowing Baghel Singh to build gurdwaras on sites linked to the Gurus and to keep a share of the city's duties.
Baghel Singh of the Karorsinghia misl had been crossing the Yamuna since the 1760s. After the Sikhs entered the Diwan-i-Am on 11 March 1783, the terms gave him six annas in the rupee, or 37.5 per cent, of Delhi's octroi. He stayed in Sabzi Mandi with 4,000 men and took charge of the police post in Chandni Chowk.
Over eight months, from April to November, he located seven sites and raised gurdwaras on them. These included Sis Ganj, where Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was martyred, and Rakab Ganj, where Guru Ji's body was cremated, as well as Bangla Sahib and Bala Sahib, linked to Sri Guru Har Krishan Ji. Three others stood at Majnu ka Tilla, Moti Bagh and Teliwara.[EoS]
