Macauliffe tells of a wall at Guru Ji's house that fell one night. When someone asked who would repair it by morning, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that Sikhs, not hired masons, should do his work. Only Bhai Lehna stood up.

Each time he got the wall partly built, Guru Ji found fault and told him to pull it down and begin again. Guru Ji's sons told him he was a fool to obey such orders. He replied that a servant's hands were there for his master's work, and Guru Ji told the family they did not know this man's worth.
