also Tamar patar of Kapal Mochan

A dated copper plate naming Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and a Brahmin named Jawala Das.[Mann]

Date
1679 (Samat 1736), as inscribed
Held by
Custodians of the Shiva temple at Kapal Mochan
Location
Kapal Mochan, near Paonta, India
Provenance
Attributed
Status: Private collection
Gurinder Singh Mann (2008) reports finding it at the temple during fieldwork in the years after 2000 and prints a photograph.

The inscription, in ordinary Gurmukhi, gives its date as 14 October 1679 in Mann's reading, and quotes the opening of the Sikh ardas.

What is disputed

  • Dating and anachronism

The plate uses 'Singh' and 'Khalsa' two decades before 1699. Mann takes this as a reason to rethink the chronology. It could equally raise doubts about the date. No independent study was found.[Mann]

The copper plate at Kapal Mochan, inscribed with a date in 1679 and naming Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Its use of 'Singh' and 'Khalsa' before 1699 raises questions that Mann discusses.
