Sri Guru Hargobind Ji released from Gwalior Fort
After a detention by Jahangir in the fortress-prison of Gwalior, Guru Ji is released and, by tradition, brings fifty-two imprisoned princes out with him. Sikhs mark the event at Diwali as Bandi Chhor Divas.
The Encyclopaedia of Sikhism says historians differ widely, and that Guru Ji appears to have been confined for a few months some time between 1617 and 1619. The date shown here is that estimate.[EoS][EoS]

- Earlier or longer: Accounts differ widely. Dates given range from about 1609 to 1620, and the Dabistan-i-Mazahib says the detention lasted twelve years. See the full account in the life and times of Sri Guru Hargobind Ji.[EoS]
