Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji: those who know they must leave

Two saloks of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji from the Var of Suhi, in the short, pointed style of his surviving couplets. Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji placed Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji's saloks within the vars of other Gurus when he compiled the Adi Granth.

  1. 1
jinee chalan jaaniaa se kiau kareh vithaar

People who know they must leave: why would they build so much here?

  2. 2
chalan saar na jaananee kaaj savaaranahaar

Those busy arranging their affairs have not understood what leaving means.

  3. 3
raat kaaran dhan sancheeaai bhalake chalan hoi

We hoard money for one night, and in the morning we leave.

Note. Life is pictured as a single night's stay.

  4. 4
naanak naal na chaliee fir pachhutaavaa hoi

Nanak says it will not go with you, and then comes regret.
